THE 2D CONCEPT
Virtual aerodynamic study: numerical simulations are performed in order to reduce the drag force of the wheel.
This study involves the optimization of pressure and friction on the different surfaces of the wheel and tyre (for example sketch n°1: visualization of wall
shear stress (friction forces) on surfaces at 40km/h).
An improvement study on flow velocity and flow separation on the wheel’s surface is also necessary in order to create a wheel that consumes the least
amount of power to initially move and then spin (for example sketch n°2: observation of the separation flow around the wheel at 40km/h).
