The importance of aerodynamics
Launched in 2019, the full carbon WS TT range was developed in close collaboration with Formula 1 and aeronautics experts. The streamlined design features fewer spokes than traditional wheels, reducing turbulence and effectively decreasing aerodynamic drag as the wheel cuts through the air. CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations were used to optimize the profile, reducing the thickness of the spokes and optimizing the depth of the carbon fiber sections. Controlled tests in the wind-tunnel and on the velodrome with some of the best Astana team riders confirmed the final choices and designs. The end product is a careful balance of stiffness and weight that offers maximum aerodynamic efficiency with no compromise on handling.
Proven by the pros
Alexei Lutsenko and Ion Izaguirre are just two of the riders who have ridden the 3-spoke front and paracular rear combo to success, taking first and second in the Critérium du Dauphiné time trial this summer. Izaguirre, Aleksandr Vlasov and Evaldas Siskevicius all won their respective national time trial championships this year, while non-sponsored athletes and teams are also known to have collected successes in major events and tours.
